Bella Italia is a new Italian restaurant located in the centre of Maribor and offers authentic south Italian food. We had enjoyable time and were lucky to meet owners and chat about pasta, wine and coffee and everyday’s stuff.
For the start: Fresh homemade bread with walnuts. Fine taste, felt light and fresh
Later: Pasta a la Siciliana. Proper al dente cooked homemade pasta, thick, tasty sauce, served with Pecorino cheese. Pasta ripiena con pesce – delicate thin rolled pasta, filled with seafood (gamberi), all in tomato sauce. Balanced dish and nice flavours.
Wine: Red wine from south of Italy, plummy nose, rich and elegant taste, drinkable. I will try to get a bottle of this wine and put together special tasting notes. It has deserved it 🙂
Coffee: well, I have to say more about this part. While we have learned to appreciate big Italian brands, the espresso we had was somehow better or at least more intense. It was the long finish which stood out. As the saying goes: further south in Italy you go, the better the coffee gets (http://www.revealedrome.com/2016/03/coffee-in-rome-italy.html).
What else to say. Great food, friendly stuff and really nice experience.
